William Maltravers

Born: 1105 - 1145 - Died: Unknown

The De Lacy family had reputedly had their property removed from them by the Crown because of suspected treason in 1114, some of which had been passed to the Maltravers family.

William was known to have been an excellent soldier, much favoured by the King who granted permission for him to bid for the lands and the hand of the widow of Hugh de la Val. After the Battle of Evesham he and a fellow Knight reputedly allowed prisoners of Simon de Montfort to “escape” questioning their loyalty.
