Re-enactments

On the Saturday morning; meet the two armies in the Churchyard at 11am and join them in their parade to the battle site on Crown Meadow.

The parade route starts in Market Square and leads along Bridge street, through the arcade car park and into Abbey Gardens to the Simon de Montfort memorial. It then continues across into Crown Meadow.

Please keep a safe distance from the horses and take notice of any marshal instructions. Please feel free to join in and follow the parade.

Follow the map and solve the clues, find the hidden items and discover the treasure!

Hand your completed entry back and be entered into a prize draw. Prize donated by the Federation of Small Businesses.

Maps will be available from the Tourist Information Centre at the Almonry, Contact Centre on Abbey Road and from the displays yurt the displays yurt on the Medieval Festival site and can be downloaded from this website from 1 August.

Re-enactments Wargames

At 12.30pm and 3pm on both days, historical re-enactors will meet and clash swords and shoot arrows in a re-enactment of the Battle of Evesham in the afternoon.

A battlefield that fits in a tent – with small but perfectly formed scale soldiers, horses and artillery, all as it would have been on 4 August 1265. Join in with the strategizing and fighting, hear from the experts and watch historical wargamers in action.

The Wargames tent is provided by Wargames Illustrated with a team of wargaming creative experts.

In the Displays Yurt throughout the medieval weekend.

Displays and Demonstrations

Craft Fayre and Farmer's Market

A programme of fun, informative and interactive examples of medieval living and fighting including:

  • Local chefs making dishes to medieval recipes
  • Talks on the history of the Battle, Simon de Montfort and his enemies, the Magna Carta
  • Medieval music by Trouvere and Waytes & Measures
  • Expert swordsmanship with explanations of how the weapons were crafted, maintained and used in battle
  • Dancing medieval style
  • Falconry with birds of prey and explanation of how these birds hunt and fight presented by Albion Historical Falconry
  • Re-enactors practicing archery and combat in the Mini Arena from time to time
  • Have a go archery for children with the Knights Hospitaller Association (a small charge applies)
  • Shoot a mini Trebuchet siege engine with King Edward’s Living History Group (a small charge applies).
  • Children’s activities by Drudion: Try on armour and helmets, hold a weapon; candle rolling (a small charge applies for materials); weaving; querning (corn grinding); games playing; tests of strength

The Alternative Battle Walk – 12.00 & 14.00

Would Simon de Montfort really have ridden up hill in full armour, knowing that he would meet certain death? This is the accepted version of events, but what would the story have been if he had taken the route towards the river? Come on this fascinating walk to hear the alternative story.
